New 'baju'...

Kermit has changed shell! He's usually very attached to his brown polka-dotted shell. This is the first time ever he picked this longish brown shell.

In order to capture this, I quickly removed all other 'clothes' (shells) from the tank. So he cannot change back.

So cute eh? I like him in this shell. Hehe.

And the winner is...

Bianca Ryan!!!

This 11-year old can really sing. If you don't know who she is, watch her 1st appearance at America's Got Talent here (11th July, when I blogged about her, she has already won my heart then...).

Anyway, she deserves the one million dollar prize.

America truly has talent!

Last Day

Today is my last day of work with my present company. After serving close to 3 months notice, I'm outta here.

I checked back my diary (lousy one with only 5 entries in a year! Haha) and saw what I've written on the 1st day of work:

14 JUNE 2004 (Monday)

Wow! First day of work. So funny. I've never thought working day would come so soon but praise God for all the wonderful colleagues, the superb working environment and my very own terminal and desk!

Plus, got in touch with Jenny today (long lost high school mate, lost contact again.. Haha). Hallelujah! THANK YOU JESUS...

The people here are really very nice.

Below is my final letter to my colleagues:

18th August 2006 (Friday)

Title: Easiest vs. Hardest thing to write

Easiest: Thank you.
Hardest: Bye bye.

Just want to let you know that I really appreciate being part of you these two and a half years. Thanks for the learning opportunities that you've given me. It's been great working with all of you. I'll still see you around, so no soppy goodbyes.

Till then, take care and God bless!

Cheers, Cissie

I'm free again... er... until 28th. Gonna start work in new opis *(office) VERY HAPPY NOW! WOOHOO!

It's coming... Again.

Ahhh... I had my two crabbie modelled for me last night. Now, I can see a clear difference in size between the two of them. Kermit has grown bigger for sure. Hermie is still in his baby size.

I've been feeding them corn & carrot. So, their colour has improved (previously a bit pale because of lack of carotene - can obtain from brightly-colour vegetables).

Kermit is crazily digging again. Sigh... I have no idea what's up with him. Hermie has been more inactive lately. I only see him sleeping. So different from Kermit. Kermit is like EVERYWHERE! Climbing onto everything that he can hold on to, digging... more digging... and more digging. Sigh... So weird.

I can smell another molt coming, these few days, the water level was super low and all the food was almost gobbled up. (Hermit crabs drink a lot and eat a lot when they're about to molt).

Funny thing is, both Hermie and Kermit showed signs of pre-molt:
Hermie - Inactive, not moving much (a very unsual behaviour)
Kermit - Super active in digging (another unsual sign, digging usually happens before molt or when crab is uncomfortable)

Take a guess! Which one do you think is gonna molt soon?

Single = ?

Now, we all know that two children who exits the womb in a single pregnancy are called 'Twins', three children who exits the womb in a single pregnancy are called 'Triplets', so on so forth. But what do you think a single child who exits the womb in a normal single pregnancy is called?

If you're curious, the world record for this list goes on and on till 15 children born in a single pregnancy (freaky! madness!)
4 children — quadruplets
5 children — quintuplets
6 children — sextuplets
7 children — septuplets
8 children — octuplets
9 children — nonuplets (can still guess? highlight to see answer)
10 children — decaplets
11 children — undecaplets
12 children — duodecaplets
13 children — tredecaplets
14 children — quattuordecaplets
15 children — quindecaplets

So, back to my original question:
What do you call a single child who exits the womb in a single pregnancy?

My guess is - TABLET.

Pinch me please...

Aww... this is the cutest pic I've ever seen! This baby's face looks like a kid's backside! Right?

So cute... My itchy fingers wanna pinch pinch. Sigh... I wish I have these kind of cheeks. Oh! And check out those curled eyelashes...

All because of "东亚病夫"

I remembered watching 'Fist of Fury' with my dad when I was young. There was an unforgettable scene of Bruce Lee returning a 'rude gift' - a frame with words that say: "东亚病夫" to the Japanese Bushido School.

BACKGROUND
"东亚病夫" is a term used by the Japanese in the 20th century to describe the Chinese. It somewhat means 'Sick Man of Asia'. During that time, China was colonised by numerous countries and they've brought in opium and many men were weakened because of the addiction.

Anyway, when it comes to the scene of Bruce kicking the frame up, smashing it up into pieces and made two of the top Bushido students 'eat' (yes, eat) the sign, my dad suddenly went "WOOO!!!"
He stood up in the cinema and clapped... as though his ego as a Chinese man was restored by Bruce Lee. Sigh... My mum and I just stared at him, wide-eyed, trying not to look embarassed.

I think at that time, I should have said something like, "Hello ba, we're not in China anymore you know? This is Malaysia, we have hibiscus here".

Anyway, I am bringing these four words "东亚病夫" up again because of these:

Taken from the TIME ASIA MAGAZINE:

One by one, the little girls walk to the wooden blocks and extend their legs into the splits, one callused foot balancing on each block, their straining bodies hovering just above the ground.

Coach Yang Yaojun, his sweatpants hiked high over his belly, ambles over to the girls, smiles and hands the nearest one a stopwatch.

The girls, who are six and seven years old, do not smile back. Teetering on the blocks, they wait as Yang straddles each leg in turn, resting his 70-kg frame on their outstretched limbs (ouch!). No matter how tough the girls are, no matter how much resolve they have mustered, the tears come within seconds. They do not cry out, though. They just well up soundlessly & stare at the seconds ticking down on the stopwatch.

After half a minute, Yang stands up and lifts the girls off the blocks. They stagger with the first step, their oversized thigh muscles visibly twitching. By the second or third step, the tremors and the tears are gone.

When a child does this six days a week all year long, save a short holiday at Lunar New Year, there are only so many tears she can shed. (I also wanna cry already)

China's Olympic prowess, though, is hardly a reflection of a nationwide passion for sweaty competition. Unlike Americans or Australians, the vast majority of Chinese are not sporty people who tote racquets or join gyms. China's international athletic success is about nationalism; it is the physical expression of a resurgent country, a rebuttal to its history as the "Sick Man of Asia" exploited by colonialists during the waning days of the Qing dynasty.

This is the new motto of China for the 2008 Olympics "从东亚病夫,到体育强国" (loosely translated as 'From Sick Man of Asia to A Country of Strong Athletes'.

This "东亚病夫" thing is like an arrow lodged deep in the heart of China... so I can understand that they wanna 'save face' and gain back a strong reputation... Sigh, but at the expense of child abuse? I'm not sure if it's justifiable.

Reunion...

Tada! My two crabbies are back together again! They've totally joined forces in terrorising the crabitat. This morning, the sand is kicked up, the water container is toppled over.... Sigh... BUT I think they had fun last night.... =)

Hermie looks like a snail here... Hehe On your mark, get set... GO! Bottom right pic caption:
Hermie: I'm gonna kick your ass, Kermit!

Ladies, CURVES are IN!

If trends say that curves & shapely figures are IN fashion, then let's say NO TO ANOREXIA NERVOSA!

By the way, the bottom left pic was originally die-cut of cardboxes in the shape of a sofa. Sprinkle grass 'seeds' over it and water it and it forms a grass sofa. Brilliant eh? Just make sure no ants get into your pants!

Itchy little fingers.

I feel a bit itchy & scratchy today. Not sure why (in case u're wondering, I don't have fleas or lice lah!). I'm just erm... you know, 手痒 - itchy / restless.

This is one of those days when you feel like you want to do something but too lazy to do anything. Yeah, I'm itchy... I'm gonna cruise through this post like a 'monkcissey'.

I really like people scratching my back (literally). Weird eh? Maybe I'm quite monkey.

Anyway, let me introduce you to my favourite monkey species - Japanese Macaque (see pic below). I like their hairstyle (blond afro) and I can so relate to their lifestyle of lazing around in the hotsprings enjoying hot baths 24/7. Ahhh...

In fact, I think my character is a little bit like the naughty fella in the middle - coz he's got itchy fingers like me.

O-hai-yo-go-zai-mas~

Kermito-san has finally emerged to say good morning to you and me. It feels great to start my day knowing that my baby Kermit survived his molt. Can you see? He's so cute with all his new baby hair on his legs.

I think Kermit has probably finished eating his exoskeleton already and was very hungry. That's why he came up from beneath the sand to search for food. Anyway, no worries! I've got banana prepared for him for breakfast!

At the time of writing, my Kermit is probably happily munching on B-A-N-A-N-A-S while listening to Gwen Stefani. Haha...

Kermit was brown but after his molt, he's now dark grey in colour! It's amazing.

Baby Kermit is scared that I'll eat him.

Today is a happy day indeed. Hermie has also finished eating his exoskeleton. I saw him roaming around a bit last night trying to drink water. When he's more ready, I'll show you his pix.

Unlike Kermit, I think Hermie's skin colour will still remain purplish (either dark or light purple) because he's a Purple Pincher mah!

Let's get high!

ON SUGAR! I can feel 'sweetest tooth' trying to break free from my gums trying grab hold on one of these (that's because my mouth is probably hanging open).

Sigh... If only offices and houses are really made of candies and clouds are real marshmallows. (Too much Hansel & Gretel).

Slurrrrpp... Come on let's salivate!

Congratulate me!!!

I feel like a happy mummy today. Coz now, I have not just ONE but TWO molting crabbies back home! WOOHOO!

Last night, I found out that Hermie has molted AGAIN! It was exactly one month ago that he molted! (Refer to my post on 2nd July to read about his molting and his molting pix
here.)

I was so shocked last night. When I checked on him last night, I thought he was hanging out of his shell DEAD! Then I realised the real him was nicely tucked in inside his shell (possibly sleeping) and the 'thing' that's hanging out was actually his exoskeleton (old skin). Phew... Sigh of relief.

Anyway, this fella must be too bored without Kermit's company. That's why he molted again. (FYI, Kermit is molting under the sand in another tank next door). Haha... Peer pressure... Monkey see... no, 'Hermit' see, 'Hermit' do.

Anyway, GOOD NEWS come in pairs, just like the old Chinese saying: “双喜临门” Because I’ve found Kermit! At last...

Yesterday, I saw Kermit's salt water pool has got dust particles floating on top, so, I decided to take it out from the tank and clean it a little bit. When I lifted the pool... Guess who I saw? KERMIT! (DUH)

Apparently he's been underneath that pool for quite sometime now. Molting and eating up his exoskeleton. The last time I checked, he only has one final leg to eat up. So, I'm guessing after that he'll go hungry and he'll 'terpaksa' (forced to) climb out from the sand soon to look for food.

Ahhh... I'm so happy.

My two crabbies are molting simultaneously. So cute...

Moi Finga Frens

Oooh... so cool! I've got companions on the net... Hehe... It's cute what a finger can do sometimes (not necessarily the middle one). =)
