Weird KK Sighting Part II
During the my recent trip back to KK, I went to the 'Philippino market' with my gang to get some souvenirs. Out of the many many stalls, I came across one that sells seahorses - both male and female.
I thought it's pretty cool to give it to people as a souvenir so I bought 2 (I only bought male seahorses, female are ugly... hehe).
While I was paying, the lady at the stall gave me a funny look. Bf was busy taking pictures, so he probably didn't notice but I was wondering why she looked at me like that.
When I came back to KL, my housemate told me that people there actually eat dried seahorses! (YUCKS!) Anyway, out of curiousity, I decided to search on the net why people do that.
The result is this - Seahorses are used as traditional medicine to treat impotence! In other words, SEAHORSE = DEEP SEA VIAGRA. No wonder that girl looked at me and bf strangely lah!
Anyway, I gave out one seahorse already. Still got one more. Shall keep it for now (if any of you 'need' it for emergency, call 1800-SEAHORSEMAMA-888). =)

So long, farewell...
For those who have been following this blog,
This is to let you know that my favourite crab, Hermie Au has passed away last night. Yesterday, I arrived home at around midnight (had to work late) only to discover that he didn't survive his molt this time.
I know for sure he's dead because there are alien creatures devouring his body and there's also a gross stench in his tank. There are a few possibilities why he didn't make it:
1) His molt was too stressful to bear.
2) He failed to adapt to the sudden change of environment during his molt (I took him home from Wendy's in the middle of his molt).
3) I took pictures of him during his molt and that caused him to feel stressed out (should have just left him alone during that stressful period). =(
Now, I only have Kermit left (this morning I checked, he's fine) but I like Hermie so much more than Kermit (my evil side wish Kermit died instead)
Everytime I hold Hermie, he'll always pop his head out to look see look see (out of curiousity), it's super cute, I love his inquisitiveness. Also, he never messes up his tank and he never pinches me, unlike Kermit.
Unfortunately, Hermit gave me his first & final pinch last night - His death has pinched me hard in the heart.

300m more...
I'm back! Finally... After spending a whole week in K.K. breathing in the mountain air and drinking fresh water, I felt so 'detox-ed'. Anyway, I didn't manage to get up to Low's Peak (highest peak on Mount. K) but I managed get myself up 300m away from the peak (because I pulled a muscle on my left thigh the day before when I was on my way up to 11,000ft).
Many people asked me why 300m more and you'll be up there, why didn't you persevere? Ahh.... you see ah, firstly up on the mountain, it's not like walking in a shopping mall. The air was sooooooo thin up there that for every 3 steps that I took, I had to rest for 10 - 15 seconds just trying to breathe. NOT EXAGGERATING, Mount. Kinabalu is afterall, the HIGHEST mountain in South East Asia.
Secondly, by the time I reached there, it's already passed sunrise and it's very foggy, gonna rain dy (dangerous... rocks slippery). So, the guide didn't allow anyone to go further. I had to turn back. If you give me another HOUR, 300m is peanuts lah (haha... boasting).
Anyway, I'm super proud of myself. So many times I wanna give up but didn't. Bf had altitude sickness but he didn't give up too. We stuck together till the 8km point, which means... GOT CERTIFICATE! (Will show you that I've done it after I laminated it).
Special thanks to Ah Jon (for carrying my bag for me from Laban Rata and pulling me up the stairs... Haha), Sara (for your encouragement and company... next time we must reach top together!) and last but not least, Bf (for keeping your promise... I'm so blessed). =)
Apart from disturbing the mountain, my gang and I also discovered a few weird things in K.K. as we monkey around town and eat our way back to K.L.
The morning before we left K.K., we had dim sum at Foo Phing (富平). After finished eating, we discovered that the ketchup & chilli sauce that they provide there (Twinine brand) has ARSENIC in it (also got lead!).
My two crabbies back home had to be babysat while I was away for the whole week. Thanks Wendy, you're a good crab-keeper. Haha... Little did I know, a huge surprise awaited me when I first got them home.
HERMIE has molted again! (Seriously, this crab is a bit weird.... he has been molting every month!) Refer to my previous posts on his molts here & here!
That's all for today! Will upload more pix in next post. So, stay tuned!

It's edible!
Haha... I'm so thrilled. Simply make also taste so nice.
Since I've tried it, now I guess it's safe to share the recipe with you all:

1 Egg Yolk
500ml of Fresh Milk
(Mix everything together in a bowl then whisk it. Freeze after)
Tata! There you have it.

First attempt in making ice-cream-o
I went to ISETAN the other day and bought this Vanilla Milk Ice powder thingy. I think I bought it at the spur of the moment without putting much thought because when I went home, I realised that I DON'T UNDERSTAND 99% of the instructions on the box. It's all in Japanese! Haha...
However, ahem... my gung-ho spirit would not be dampened. During the weekend, I have decided to try and make Vanilla Milk Ice aka vanilla ice cream by only 'guesses', 'speculations' and 'assumptions' (I simply guessed the measurements for the number of eggs and amount of milk).
There is a simple diagram on the back of the box and it shows a whisk, so I mix everything, poured in the sugar and milk then whisk it before putting it into the freezer.
I'll tell you the results tomorrow. You never know... It could turn out to be... EDIBLE. =)
Anyone wants my recipe?

He says, she says
I am a terribly unfit person. Part of that reason is because I hardly ever exercise. Can't blame me, all the sports are too boring for me. The only sport that I like is badminton. The rest I hate. Haha.
However, in view of the coming Mount. Kinabalu climb (I'll be climbing that mountain in less than one week's time! *GULP), I went JOGGING (WHOA!) to build stamina on Saturday. This was what happened.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Me: Why did you park your car so far? (Bf parked his car like 10 miles away from starting point)
Bf: It's ok. We can start warming up from here. By the time we reach starting point, ready to jog.
My thought - Huh? Should park nearer! By the time we reach the starting point, I'll be tired and it's time to go home already.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bf: (While walking to the starting point) Later when we jog, don't stop ok? Must keep the momentum.
Me: But that's impossible.
Bf: We'll try.
My thought - It's impossible. Full stop.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Going up hill)
Bf: Faster...
Me: (Difficulty breathing - Silence)
Bf: Come, go faster.
Me: (Give him THAT look)
My thought - Grrr! YOU THINK I DON'T WANNA GO FASTER AND GO HOME AH! I can't go faster lah.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Eventually, I cannot tahan, so I stopped)
Bf: (Turned back and saw that I've stopped) Are you ok?
Me: I'm starting to see stars.
Bf: Huh? Serious ah?
Me: (Trying not to faint)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Still walking)
Bf: Come, let's jog to that point then we stop (pointed at a location further up)
Me: (Silent but started jogging a little)
Bf: So, how was cell last night?
Me: (Didn't even look up, still gasping for air... Silent)
Bf: (Waited for my response but got none) You can't talk while jogging izzit? (BROKE OUT IN LAUGHTER)
Me: (Gave him THAT look again)
My thought - Cell? What cell? I'm almost hyper-ventilating! All I am doing is concentrating on getting to that POINT so we can stop jogging and walk!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Walking after a long long time)
Bf: (Stretching out his pinky) Let's make a deal, when we go up the mountain, no matter what, we'll go up together, k? Won't leave you behind.
Me: (Wrapping my pinky around his... I wanna cry dy... so touching...)
My thought - Ahh... That's why you're my bf.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Still walking very slowly)
Bf: This is the last 'going-up-hill part' dy. After this, we go eat dim sum for breakfast k?
Me: (Feeling a sudden surge of energy, I broke the silence) Really? Ok! Let's jog!
My thought - Ahh... incentives always help. He should have mentioned DIM SUM earlier.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Aftermath)
At the end, we managed to get back to the car. We had dim sum. =)
Conclusion: My whole body is aching now. I still hate jogging.

So ngam?
Totally unreal! This goal is scored by Rafael Van Der Vaart in the Ajax vs Feyenoord (Holland) match. Gosh... accidentally scored izzit? |
Is he THE comrade?
To fall in love is easy,
even to remain in it is not difficult;
our human loneliness is cause enough.
But a hard quest worth making is

to find a comrade through whose steady presence
one becomes steadily the person one desires to be.

Crocodile Hunter dead.
I feel so sad!
Steve Irwin, the famous Crocodile Hunter has passed away today. And I found out that Steve and I share the same birth date, which is 22 February (year different lah, he is 44 years old).
Anyway, Steve was shooting a documentary called "The Ocean's Deadliest" for Animal Planet in the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. So, while diving with the tiger sharks, his chest was pierced by a stingray barb .
The producer and director of the documentary, John Stainton said: "He had gone over the top of a stingray and a stingray's barb went up and went into his chest and put a hole into his heart."
I find it really ironic because the main character of the shoot was actually tiger sharks, not stingray. The stingray that killed him just so happened to be there only. Sigh... plus, stingrays normally (almost never) attacks. Truly bizarre.
After the incident, they rushed him back to his research vessel but failed to resuscitate him. He was pronounced dead this afternoon at 12pm.
He is survived by his wife and two children (girl 8 years old, boy 3 years old).

Gold, 'Sai' or both?
This is Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' baby, Suri Cruise's first 'sai' (hokkien, means poop) sculpted by Daniel Edwards (inspiration is obviously from 19-week old Suri's first bowel movement). Those are quite big 'sai's from someone that size.
This 'sai' sculpture is now sitting in Capla Kesting Gallery, ready to be aunctioned off for 'charity' in eBay. The current highest bid is 41USD.
So, the next time you do 'big business', think about how much you're really 'flushing down the toilet'.
